For some, Mother’s Day is simply another day on the calendar. For others, it carries enormous weight and profound meaning. For those yearning to be mothers, or those who have lost their mother figures, it can be a day laced with grief and poignancy, a reminder of what is not had or no longer held. But for others, bleary eyed in the trenches raising small children, or wading through the oscillating challenges of parenting tweens and teenagers, or adults acknowledging the women who raised them, it’s a celebration of a mother’s sacrifice and infinite love, grounded in gravitas and meaning.

Mothers come in many shapes and sizes, with different titles that may have no biological bearing. A parent’s best friend. Aunts. Grandmothers. Neighbours. Teachers. Chosen family. But to be loved whole heartedly by a mother or a mother-figure is to know safety. To understand sacrifice. To experience warmth. To feel cherished, valued and seen by a woman who looks upon you as her child is to know the utmost care and feel the purest of love.

While there have been mothering festivals and celebrations across different cultures for thousands of years, the first western Mother’s Day celebration was organised in 1908 by American woman Anna Jarvis, who felt compelled to honour the sacrifices mothers make, as well as celebrate the memory of her own mother who had recently passed away.

While celebrated on different dates in different part of the world, Mother’s Day is now a significant mark on the annual carousal of celebrations. Beyond the Hallmark tropes lies the essence of its meaning – a moment to take stock and acknowledge our gratitude for the women who birthed us, or who contributed significantly to our survival, growth and development.

A wonderful tradition for showing love for our mothers is breakfast in bed – a moment of peace and nourishment before the chaos of the day begins. Here at Tiger Purrr, we are thrilled with more excuses for nourishing cups of tea – in particular chai and even more so, our new Manuka Honey Chai.

More than anything else, mums want to know they’re thought of, loved, and appreciated. At Tiger Purr, we adore sitting down with our mums for a chinwag and a cuppa – even more so when the brew is this impossibly delicious.

Manuka Honey Chai

Rich, warming and indulgent, our Tiger Purrr Manuka Honey Chai blend brings all the flavours of our original recipe - the grounding blend of assam tea leaves expertly blended with Vietnamese cassia, liquorice-sweet star anise and warming Szechuan pepper – combined with Australian Manuka Honey. With complex notes of the Aussie bush, Manuka Honey is touted to have medicinal properties thought to bolster the immune system alongside potent antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits. We are all here because we had mothers. Whether biological kin or a woman who showed heart-led kindness and nurturing warmth, our mother figures taught us invaluable lessons and modelled how to show up in the world.

How will you show the mother in your life your gratitude for all they have given you?
